After heavenly Tyrant I decided to take a small break from reading but my likely nex books will be Arcadia by Emmanuelle Bayamack-Tam, She's Always Hungry by Eliza Clark, or Cuckoo by Gretchen Felkner-Martin. I've had these books on my backlog for a while now so these are the 3 I'm most looking forward to at the moment. If you have any recomendations let me know!

Heavenly Tyrant

Xiran Jay Zhao

This is the Sequel to Iron Widow which I LOVED!!! Heavenly Tyrant goes so much harder. If you like mechs, bad bitches, communism, killing gods in JRPGs, and feminist power fantasies, THIS! IS! FOR! YOU!!!!!!!! The cliffhanger at the end got got me! Book 3 can't come out fast enough!!! XIRAN PLEASE PLEAAAASE!!!!

NightBitch

Rachel Yoder

This story is not what I expected at all. I was expecting a bit more of a horrific romp and instead I was met with a deeply personal meditation of the pains and struggles of motherhood. This by no means is a bad thing and I enjoyed this book but This book is classified as horror but it feels more like a drama. The book let the horor fan in me me wanting, but the drama lover in me was moved to tears.

Hungerstone

Kat Dunn

The first few chapters are painfully boring but fans of vampires and feminism P L E A S E stick with it because after the intro, it REALLY gets going! This is a phenomenal reinterpretation of the classic Carmila novel, faithful to the original but diverting in some exciting ways.

The Final Girls Support Group

Grady Hendrix

This was an enjoyable read and really funny to boot. Hendrix, and this book, are not bad by any means but for someone like me who is excited for more queer horror, it left me wanting. Fans of slasher movies, especially the classics, should definitely check this out because there is alot to love here!

Brainwyrms

Alison Rumfitt

Remember how I said that "Tell Me I'm Worthless" made me squirm with discomfort? Yeah fuck that, THIS BOOK! RIGHT HERE! MADE ME GAG! MADE ME SQUIRM! MADE ME CHOKE WITH DISGUST!!!! I LOVED IT!!!! Alison Rumfitt clealy knows her way around body horror and writing about fascism in some wild and creative ways. Alison if you happen to be reading this: Girl, you was crazy for this one! Good looking out sis, keep up the good work!

Iron Widow

Xiran Jay Zhao

Do you like anime? Did you watch Darling In The Franxx? Did you wish it could be better? Do you like Mechs? Are you chinese or do you like chinese history and mythology? Do you like poly ships? Do you like bad bitches doing bad bitch shit? Are you a woman in desperate need of a power fantasy? If you answered yes to any of these questions, GO FUCKING READ THIS BOOK! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Manhunt

Gretchen Falkner-Martin

This book made me sob and have a bad day. I mean that as a high compliment. I love horror and I dig the occational post-apocalyptic romp but as a trans women of color that barely passes, I often have trouble finding characters that truly represent me. I very deeply related to one of the main characters (Beth) and I felt so seen by her worldview, her pain, her joy, and everything the book put her through.

Tell Me I'm Worthless

Alison Rumfitt

This one of the first books that truly made me squirm with discomfort and tested the limits. Alison Rumfitt is a trans woman who, like many of us, is sick and tired of fascism. This book takes haunted house stories and imbues the malevolent spirits with fascist ideology to the detriment of anyone who dare step foot in the house. A powerful read for those brave enough to venture forth.

Patricia Wants To Cuddle

Samantha Allen

This book is silly, cheesy, goofy, and doesn't take itself very seriously. I love it! It's more of a horror comedy than a straight up horror but as someone that scoffs at reality tv shows like "The Bachelor" this book filled me with a plesant schaudenfruede that stuck with me well past the ending. I would honestly love to see this book be turned into a campy B-movie, I would be first in line for a ticket!

I Keep My Exoskeletons To Myself

Marisa Crane

This is one of the few non-horror books on here. The ending left something to be desired but this book is still incredible because of the powerfully emotional narration from the main character. This is the author's debut book and I'm sure their skills will only improve from here. I especially recomend this book to my fellow lesbians!

Sister Maiden Monster

Lucy A. Snyder

Queer. Feminist. Eldrich Horror. Need I say more? no. But I will anyway :)

After the Covid Pandemic another pandemic slowly turns people into something... else. This book has it's flaws but the wild ride it takes you on deserves your attention. It should also be noted that Lucy Snyder is a biologist and she leverages that skill here for maximum impact!

Fledgling

Octavia Butler

If you love Octavia Butler, you're in for a great time! This book is Otavia Bulter's take on "daywalker" vampires and how that rocks the vampire establishment, especially given WHO this daywalker is! If you love vampires and you want a fresh take on them I strongly recommend giving this book a chance!
